Beowulf: Introduction to Chapter 7

In the hall of Hrothgar, Heorot, the warrior Beowulf boasted of his youthful defeat of many sea-monsters, and so raised the hopes of all that he could successfully slay the monster Grendel, that had killed many warriors there. Hrothgar’s queen welcomed all with warmth and hospitality, and once the feast had ended and night began to fall, Hrothgar named Beowulf hall-warden, and warned him to be wary.
