Beowulf: Introduction to Chapter 11

Beowulf had defeated the monster Grendel, tearing its arm from its body, but their battle had caused great damage to King Hrothgar’s hall. The Danes did their best to restore it, and that night Hrothgar, Beowulf, and all their men feasted with great joy. Then generous Hrothgar gave Beowulf many gifts, and more to his men, and the king’s poet began to perform a saga.
