Plague In The ACT

It’s come to Canberra at last.  Oddly for a town renowned for being a little smarter (and smugger) than the rest of the nation, it seems to be responding more or less the same way.  Some things are constant, I guess.

This is to the tune of Springsteen’s Born In The USA.

August 2021

Locked down in a winter town
The Mall’s full of TP-hoarding bogan clowns
Reckoned we’re too smart for that Sky News stuff
But the brain rot will get to you, sure enough, now

Plague in the ACT
We’ve got plague in the ACT
We’ve got plague in the ACT
Plague in the ACT

Got used to last year’s homeschool scene
But we thought we’d got off pretty clean
Delta came from a foreign land
So now we all can screw our plans

Plague in the ACT
We’ve got plague in the ACT, yeah
Plague in the ACT
We got plague in the ACT

Stay at home with free-to-air TV
Andrew Barr says there’s germs in the poo and pee
Lockdown would always be the plan
He said, “Hey, don’t we all love Dan?”

[instrumental]

I’ve got a brother in Westmead
Six kids he’s got to teach to read
Kind of wished he didn’t breed

I’ve got a sister lives in Moonee Ponds
She says the lockdowns just go on and on

In the shadow of the Black Mountain Tower
No tourists round here now to “Feel The Power”
For two years living with this bull
But where to run? Auckland’s pretty full

Plague in the ACT
We’ve got plague in the ACT, now
Plague in the ACT
I’m masked-up homeboy in the ACT

Plague in the ACT
Plague in the ACT
Plague in the ACT
I’m a brain-poked statistic in the ACT
