It’s not necessary to know which particular school shooting inspired this song. Cast your minds back a week and you’ll think of one that fits. Here’s a song about the US police force and not, for the most part, the police of any other nation (though we’re watching them too). The tune is A Policeman’s Lot Is Not A Happy One from G&S.
July 2022
When a cop is not off playing with his weapon (with his weapon)
Or consuming freebie donuts at the store (at the store)
He is sometimes called to serve and aid the public (aid the public)
Which I’m sure you will agree is just a bore (just a bore)
Our feelings, we will tell you all about ’em (all about ’em):
There are aspects of the job we’d rather shun (rather shun)
Like the serving and protecting, that’s too risky (far too risky!)
A policeman’s not a man without his gun!
Ahhhh…
When the baddies aren’t unconscious, we will run, we will run
A policeman’s not a man without his gun!
When one black guy looks a little like another (like another)
Just as long as one is dead, who cares which one (cares which one)?
We can say the way he snored was really scary (really scary)
A policeman’s not a man without his gun!
When a school of prepubescent kids are threatened (kids are threatened)
We will look for nearby parents we can stun (we can stun)
But we won’t allow ourselves to risk a mishap (risk a mishap)
A policeman’s not a man without his gun!
Ahhhh
We’ll be needing extra funding by the ton, by the ton
A policeman’s not a man without his gun!
