To the tune of Somebody That I Used To Know, by Gotye.
April 2012
The King:
Now and then I think about my coronation,
Like when the peers all swore to to serve, by mouth and hand.
Told myself that I would wisely reign,
I’d have a ball and not a ball and chain,
But now they’re saying it’s my time for abdication…
You can get addicted to your seat on that High Table.
And everybody is your friend, always your friend.
So when they told me that my time was through,
Well I didn’t reckon that would do,
So I decided that my reign was not over!
But you didn’t have to call the guards
Make out like I’m not your sovereign and that I was evil
And why’d you need to make this hard?
I only drugged the Seneschal, is that so rough?
No you didn’t have to be so cruel,
Have the heralds change my name to Arable Halfacre!
Declaring me the Royal Fool?
Now you’re just some kingdom that I used to rule.
Now you’re just some kingdom that I used to rule.
Now you’re just some kingdom that I used to rule.
The Queen:
Now and then I think of all the knights I could be snogging,
Should have been receiving lots of favours of the royal kind.
But now I have to call the peers,
Calm them down and try to soothe their fears
Explain that everything is cool
And they needn’t be concerned to be the kingdom that you used to rule!
The King:
But you didn’t have to call the guards
Make out like I’m not your sovereign and that I was evil
And why’d you need to make this hard?
I only stabbed some Pelicans, is that so rough?
No you didn’t have to be so cruel,
Paint my armour fluoro pink and have me banned from camping,
I guess it’s back to business school —
Now you’re just some kingdom that I used to rule.
Some kingdom
(I used to rule)
Some kingdom
(Now you’re just some kingdom that I used to rule)
Some kingdom
(I used to rule)
(That I used to rule)
(I used to rule)
Some kingdom
