I have wanted to filk House Of The Rising Sun for decades, longer than I’ve been in the SCA. Suddenly an angle came to me, and here it is. It’s a useful song: it’s a generic household anthem, Mad Libs style, for any and every household.

And it’s been a home to BOYS SLASH GIRLS
Since FOUNDING MONTH AND YEAR.
The founder’s name is PERSON ONE
Though HE SLASH SHE is known
As FRIENDLY NICKNAME in the house
(As several filks have shown).
Now the primary thing the household does
Is HOBBY OR INTENT,
And the primary time you’ll see them play
Is MAJOR GROUP EVENT.
Oh PARENT, FRIEND OR MENTOR
You’ll have no cause to fear
If PERSON IN YOUR LEGAL CARE
Should join INSERT NAME HERE.
With one foot in the present
The other in RANGE OF YEARS,
They’re likely set to carry on
Till no one volunteers.
