Home And Cosy

After a while, when the news has gotten as bad as it can possibly get (and you know it will proceed to get worse), you either have to give up, or else you have to listen to the New Zealand national anthem and filk it.

This is the latter.  The anthem is, as any Kiwi can tell you, Slice of Heaven by Dave Dobbyn and the Herbs.

This is a song about not giving up.

April 2020

Hey, I got a bit of cash on me
Just stick with me, kid, things’ll be just fine
Yeah, we’re well supplied with books, aren’t we
And travel always was a waste of our time
Hey beauty, when the news gets you down
The stats and curves, got you feeling like you’ll drown
That’s when we take some time to ground, don’t we
Clean a room, maybe cook some stew

Now we’re baking
Where do we keep the yeast?
That bad news, yeah, it’s always rising
But we’re home and cosy (home and cosy)
The mighty ship of state’s capsizing
But we’re home and cosy

Wa-wa-wa-wash your hands!

Hey, we got a lot of time, don’t we
We’re stuck at home, sure, that’s what you could say
Yeah, we’ll never see our friends, will we
That’s always true though, long before today
Hey beauty, when your Wall’s full of fear
It’s like the world’s last days are drawing near
That’s when we go and plant some beans, in the sun
Doomsday, hey, just wait till we’re done.

What’s on Netflix, ooh
What was that Tiger thing?
That bad news, yeah, it’s always rising
But we’re home and cosy (home and cosy)
Skip armchair experts analysing
‘Cause we’re home and cosy
The news is somehow still surprising
Still we’re home and cosy (home and cosy)
Must really do some exercising
While we’re home and cosy

La-la-la-lock-in
La-la-la-lock-in
La-la-la-lock-in
La-la-la-let-me-out

La-la-la-lock-in
La-la-la-lock-in
La-la-la-lock-in
La-la-la-let-me-out

Howdy postman, oooh
What does the new day bring?
That bad news, yeah, it’s always rising
But we’re home and cosy (home and cosy)
The mighty ship of state’s capsizing
But we’re home and cosy
That bad news, yeah, it’s always rising
But we’re home and cosy (home and cosy)
Skip armchair experts analysing
‘Cause we’re home and cosy
The news is somehow still surprising
Still we’re home and cosy (home and cosy)
Must really do some exercising
While we’re home and cosy
