Go Down, Voters

By the third month of 2020, Australia had seen fire, flood, drought, hail, cyclones, the beginnings of the COVID-19 epidemic and whispers of a plague of locusts.  It started feeling very biblical.  The obvious solution, as always, is to kick out the government that is fighting harder for their donors than for the population, and maybe encourage some science.  A religious song is therefore the way to go.  This is to the tune of Let My People Go, the old spiritual.

March 2020

When fire and flame came out to play
Let my people go!
The clouds of smoke choked out the day
Let my people go!

Go down, voters
‘Way ’round the land of Oz
Tell old Scomo
To let my people go!

The fire gave way to rain and flood
Let my people go!
While hailstones fell to chill the blood
Let my people go!

In distant lands a plague appears
Let my people go!
The leaders stoke their people’s fears
Let my people go!

When water thieves turn rivers dry
Let my people go!
The fish, the stock, the people die
Let my people go!

The death camps filled with desperate men
Let my people go!
The wrath of God seems proper then
Let my people go!
