Fire Lies

To the tune of Fireflies, by Owl City. The first verse came to me in the car today and I just had to write the rest.  It’s about Joss Whedon, whose wife revealed after many years that he had been cheating on her with multiple vulnerable young women while simultaneously trumpeting his Feminist ideals to everyone who’d listen.  The signs were there all along though.

I was reminded of this when he popped up in the news again with yet another genre show about “strong women”; I hope he’ll be supervised.

July 2018

I could not believe my eyes:
The guy that wrote Firefly
Turned out to be just another sleaze

I thought that he’d only tripped
With that Wonder Woman script
But even his fans no longer can stand tight-lipped

I’d like to let myself believe
Joss Whedon can learn, slowly.
It’s hard to say when he threw away the good will he once had,
‘Cause everything is turning out so sad.

‘Cause he gave unwanted hugs
And said stuff provoking shrugs
As they said he’s famous, just ignore.

His women are strong, he’s said,
The lucky ones end up dead
I should have known from that thing he did to Fred

I’d like to let myself believe
Joss Whedon can learn, slowly.
It’s hard to say when he threw away the good will he once had,
‘Cause everything is turning out so sad.

I know he’s not some mindless toad (please tell me it’s all a dream)
‘Cause I loved that musical episode (please tell me it’s all a dream)
Why did his wife have to tell the truth (please tell me it’s all a dream)
When I’d rather save all the lies of youth?

We called him a feminist
He showed we could coexist
“Because you’re still asking me that question” – yeah!

Now I’m extremely vexed:
Turns out he’s just oversexed.
So cliché, I hope it’s not Neil Gaiman next…

I’d like to let myself believe
Joss Whedon can learn, slowly.
It’s hard to say when he threw away the good will he once had,
‘Cause everything is turning out so sad.

I’d like to let myself believe
Joss Whedon can learn, slowly.
It’s hard to say when he threw away the good will he once had,
‘Cause everything is turning out so sad.

I’d like to let myself believe
Joss Whedon can learn, slowly.
It’s hard to say but it’s good that they abandoned half his shows
Forever upward’s never how he goes…
