Written in honour of the cooks of the Canton of Lightwood’s fourth birthday feast, 21 November 2015. The source is probably inevitable given that I have a ten-year-old daughter: a Katy Perry song.
This was not quite the life I planned
When I joined a canton
Thought I’d have fun, bow in hand
Just relaxation
I went to that meeting
They asked for volunteers
I thought oh, well why not?
Went deaf from their cheers…
I cooked a feast and they ate it
Taste of the best researching
I cooked a feast, didn’t hate it
Looks like we’re all still lurching
It smelled so good, it ran on time
Walk in and waddle on home
I cooked a feast and they ate it
You ate it!
We picked a date and then a name, I don’t remember
Worked out the cost to play the game, plus five non-member
The clouds brought no rain but
The wind really blew a storm
It’s nice in our feast hall
So toasty warm…
I cooked a feast and they ate it
Taste of the best researching
I cooked a feast, didn’t hate it
Looks like we’re all still lurching
It smelled so good, it ran on time
Walk in and waddle on home
I cooked a feast and they ate it
You ate it!
