The Remains Of My Country

In the style of, and with apologies to, Dorothea Mackellar: a quicky on the subject of the recent bushfires.

[January 2002]

I’d love an unburnt country,
A land equipped with trees,
Whose rugged coastal forests
Aren’t ashes on the breeze.
I’d love a far horizon
That I can clearly see:
More beauty! Much less terror!
A wide GREEN land for me!
